something new

Introducing something new, “Linear Song”, 20×24 acrylic and oil on gallery wrapped canvas. My one and only 2015 New Year’s resolution is to pursue the world of abstraction. This is my very first one and I am excited to show it to you.
Inspiration came from studying the work of artist Krista Harris. A few years ago I was with a dear friend at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, I saw a beautiful huge abstract painting by Krista hanging on the hospital wall. It inspired me to do a bit of research, she was born in Charlotte, NC but now lives in Colorado.
“Linear Song” was inspired by a tree in my front yard, I began with a really loose sketch, then started adding layers of acrylic washes, finishing up with oil and gold leaf application. I will continue to paint familiar subjects in my usual style but I look forward to exploring abstraction, please let me know what you think.

I’ve gone mad!! Well not really, I’m just trying to broaden my artist skills. I am enjoying my art journey as my eyes and heart are open to all kinds of art. Strathmore 2013 online Workshop Series Abstract Fine Art Painting with Robert Joyner is my latest soul food- and the class is FREE…now that is amazing!
This is a brand new style and technique that I am exploring, not the pretty little bunnies here. Please take a visual journey with me. Thanks for looking.
